I used to play on this one server called Landwar Maelstromhttp://www.planetminecraft.com/server/land-war/ it recently got offline (about a year ago) I've been searching for months for a similar/decent kit pvp server but they all have similar problems.
-Too much donors: (Rich kids who donate all their parents money) (This isn't a bad thing but you'll see too much players with diamond armor, god apples prot 4 armor etc)
While all you will have is a stone sword and a bow with 3 arrows.
-Op kits: (Some players like this) Running around Immortal until all your armor breaks. (Or until you run out of God apples.) This isn't really pvp. (Try to ban God Apples, diamond armor with prot 4 etc.
-Just plain pvp: This is actually quite fun...... but for only a couple of minutes. It's not fun if all you do is log on kill players, die, kill more players etc. There has to be Timed tdms Ctfs etc one that has winner. You need competition for it to be successful.
Would you go Call of duty (Or whatever first person shooters you play) if all you did was shoot players respawn then shoot more players? You'd probably stop playing after the first 5 minutes that's why the most successful First person shooters/Pvp games have more than one gamemode. Also just timed Tdm alone is also quite boring, Try adding Ctf or custom gamemodes be creative DON'T JUST COPY OTHER PEOPLES IDEAS.)
-Unoriginal pvp servers: What's so different about your pvp server (If you have one)
I can tell you one thing it's probably not much. Try getting a plugin developer don't just download a kitpvp plugin then upload a map off of pmc and call it a kitpvp server.
There is nothing I hate more than people who aren't creative.
-Abusive Staff: (You could be on of them!) Try to play as if you are the player (Treat yourself as you just joined give yourself the starter class at all times.) Do you like it? Are you having Fun? Most Owners/Staff will give themselves the good stuff cause they think since they created the server they should be treated to better equipment.
If you play as the regular player you'll notice what the bad things about the server are and how to improve them. Also listen to to ---> ALL<--- players for suggestions don't be too prideful thinking your server is perfect trust me it's not. Even the servers I liked best aren't perfect, Remember that. Although don't listen to all players some of them just come up with the dumbest ideas. If they ask for Op kits or ask you to add something that creates your server unoriginal don't accept it. Not all players will like your server.

i have a completetly diffrent concept for my server yes they are donors that pay to win but i adpated the regular kits so the donors actually have a competition . i added extra features in like a dungeon with cells so you can store your stuff without the fact of getting killed and noone can enter. my staff are logged on chats and i have known them for a few years and taught them respect so theyre nice to the players. my staff do not have access to donor kits unless they buy them which doesnt give them a upper hand on regulars. there are a few good servers out there you just have to look
my map is hand build noone of the maps i have on my server are spawned in because this doesnt inspire players to come on they see a map already build and they just think youre lazy which i dispise in many ways , if youre looking for players put youre own effort into the server not take anyone elses credit.
