I remember a friend telling me about the game a long time ago. At least, it feels like a long time ago. Back in April or so, a friend gave me a code for the game as a birthday present and I have to say, this is the gift that keeps on giving!
When I started out, I was on some random island with nothing but my bare hands and no clue what to do. I was in Normal mode and then I got jumped by a Skeleton at night. This carried on for a while until I figured out that I can make weapons and use tools as weapons. Ever since, I've build simplified castles to keep me and my possessions safe from the things that crawl in the night. and the things that Creep in the day. This doesn't stop spiders from rampaging in my place, but a good cactus fence will do the trick.-
As I played more, I realized I had no contact with the community. I started visiting Multiplayer servers and saw with delight what others were doing. Villages, cities, community projects, and even little adventures! I was absolutely delighted! I started looking around through Google for similar things of a single-player nature and I found instead Planet Minecraft. It's a good site with a very good sorting system. It was easy to find skins that were funny and I wanted to put up a couple of my own, so I made my own account. However, finding game maps was kind of iffy. I did find some that were interesting but only by following a link in one I realized I had forgotten all about the Minecraft Forums. It was there I found far more than I expected. Mods upon mods, adventures, Adventure-Craft, Adventure-Craft adventures, building challenges, and more. Every time I turned around, I found something new! This is not even mentioning all the updates to the game that have culminated in two sub-worlds, many more enemies, giant mushrooms, living snowmen, and magic! I can make potions!-
When you get down to it, this is the sort of game people love. Enough freedom to have fun and explore. To find things on your own. And sure it takes time for people to make a game map, but in the end it's all worth it. While big companies make linear games with all kinds of gimmicks to get people's interest, all this game needed was word-of-mouth and a true Sandbox world. And updates, can't forget about the updates.
-That is why I love Minecraft.
-Thank you, Notch. Thank you, Mojang. Thank you, players. You all have made this such a fantastic game.
