Well you go around the site and you find a very bad submission (in your opinion.) You find that the user is at level 60. You look through the user's profile page and all you find is utterly useless crap. Believe me, it happens.
XP can be a massive influence to a user and what other users think about them. Uploading on PMC is not all fun and games, it's about quality work and making your submissions as best as you possibly can. I see users with somewhat effortless work but a large amount of submissions at level 40-60. These users certainly do not deserve that rank. The users that do are the ones that are at level 10-40 with epic projects and projects with heaps of effort put into them. I'm certainly not saying that all high ranked members don't deserve their high reputation, the ones with excellent, recognised submissions deserve the rank. The ones that have been bribed or spammed are the ones that don't deserve their rank.
PMC should not be a popularity contest, but now days, it kinda is. Users are most likely to be recognised if they have a high level. The lower level users will be lucky if they even get popular due to the massive community we are all now used to. Back before the official release, Minecraft was small, PMC was small. The old users are popular. But they might have put in heaps of effort? If you were to stay on as long as they've been on,
1. The flood of submissions and users will cover up all your good stuff
2. The now popular users will get even more experience and build up as fast as you, and you will never get on the popular
Another reason why XP is unfair is due to how it is handed out, this is not 100% accurate but this is what I've heard of how XP is shared

This means if someone spams their comments or randomly places a heart on a bad project, that risk's the bad users getting popular and the ones that deserve to be popular remaining as the underdogs. If you put heaps of effort into your work, and have done the best you possibly can, jsut know that you deserve that position, whether you get it or not.
What has XP ever done for you? The only good thing about XP is the classes. You can unlock unique classes depending on your XP. I'm not saying that XP should be removed from the site, but maybe Paril and Cyprezz can change it a little and/or users can stop abusing it.
To sum it all up, PMC should stop abusing the XP system and make it fair for all. The people who put the time and effort in and make their submissions the best that they can, are the ones that deserve the popularity, not the ones that put little effort in and over advertise, bribe etc. their submissions.
