Faction Servers:
We've all been on them, but some people are just ignorant in the way of maintaining a sucessful faction. I should know, I've been through ALL of this. I would make a redstone tutorial for the contest, but really, I'm only a Novice.

Bases:
The most important part of your faction! In peacetime, it can be a nice comfy home, in wartime it can serve as an operational outpost. Here's some tips on how to run a good base.

-Concealment
Ah yes, the old problem of many bases. If your base is not concealed, it'll be easily spotted from afar, and thus easily raidable. Now there are many ways of conealment, including making it part of the terrain, even underground! It should look something like the terrain, and very concealed. If you're going to build an underground base, make sure to cover the entrance, then maybe mark it with something that's not noticeable, especially in the terrain you're in, whether it be a single log, or a flower!

-Supplies
Always have to go outside of your base, risking the security of you and your base, just to collect supplies, right? Well, a way to stop all those trips, is just to stock up on supplies. Be a faction that hardly has to go outside to do anything. Make an indoor farm, and a tree farm, if you can. Make a stock up on food, and wood, and all the essentials. Best yet, make an indoor mine. At that, I can assure you, that you'll almost never have to go outside again.

-Size
For more faction members, you need a bigger base. Most of them will want individual room, so they can stash their share of the stuff, and whatnot. You will also need a bigger main room, as they will be passing through there a lot. Also, there should be more public chests in the main room, because the more members, the more supplies.

Raids:
I can tell that this is your favorite part, raiding other factions, killing their members, and stealing their stuff, right? Alright, let's get started.

-Strategy
It's not as easy as storming in, swords ablaze, as most do. You need good strategy and tactics on your side. It's good to have a tactician around. Here's a small situation. A four walled, large fortress-like base. Troops are spread out along the wall. What do you do?

A.Attack full blast, at the front.
B.Attack from two sides.
C. Send some troops to the front, to distract the guards, so they will all the enemy troops will try to kill those troops, while you and a small guard move in through the side stealthily, to steal all their stuff.

If you picked C, you are a good tactician. If not, you're crazy.

-Troops
To be successful at raids, you need an adequate amount of troops, enough to at least pull off a single raid. To get more members, I suggest announcing that you're recruiting, and that if they join, they'll get a special incentive. You need to be known as a good leader, to effectively lead your troops in battle, whether your a leader or not.

-Your Arsenal
To be successful at raids, or any battles really, you must have adequate weaponry, and armour. How do you think you'll fend against two diamond armour guys with two iron swords, with leather armour and wood swords? Exactly, bad. Before you head out on a raid, be sure to have good armour and weapons. I suggest at least Iron Armour, and an Iron sword. You'll at least stand a chance against strong guys.

-Stealth
Sometimes, but not usually, factions are away, or all offline. In this case, this is a perfect time to raid. Now, even though they're not there, there could always be an ally guarding their base for them, so that's where stealth comes in. You need to stay out of the line of view of the guards, by moving with the environment, and hiding. It'd also help to sneak in the right place.

-Protection:
You will need many guards, and patrols on duty, to assure your faction is safe.

-Patrols
At night, or even during the day, you'll need patrols on duty.

During the night, I suggest you take shifts. Some people stay in during a certain amount of time, others go out to patrol. After, say 5 min., switch off patrols. Keep doing this, until you are sure there are not threats in the vicinity.

During the day, you may want just a single patrol, because during the day, it is brighter, so you can see other people much more easily, and when the adversary sees a large patrol, they will either try to engage, or run away.

-Outposts
Now, say your base gets raided, and you have nowhere else to go, that's where the outposts come in. They act as an alternative, should anything happen to the main base. Being that as it may, it shouldn't be neglected, as it can fall into destruction at any time. You should station a few troops at the outpost, and have the coordinates, secretive.

-Main Guard
You can't have every single one of your troops off on a raid with you, or be inside. You'll need an alert watch force to watch over your base as you are raiding, or otherwise inside. You can't just have anyone on the Main Guard, you need people you trust, people that are responsible, fast acting, and alert. They must be good at using a bow and arrow as well, as the enemies will come from afar. With the main guard, the base will be safe, and should almost never fall into enemy control.

-Traps
Should be fun, right? Well, it may be as simple as a mine, or a large, complicated redstone trap. Here's some tips on how to make successful traps.

-Hide it
Come on, really? You should know this already. It should be hidden within the terrain, most likely underground.

-Make it look like part of the environment
Got a trap that can't be hidden easily? Just make it part of the environment. Cover it over with some grass, or whatever goes with the environment, then just add details, such as, say, some tall grass.

-Practical Use
Why make a trap just for show? Trying to make the enemy get nervous? If the enemy sees a trap, he/she will think that it's protecting something valuable! Then if it doesn't work on them, they will know that they can go right through the "defense". Always make traps that WORK.

-Damage
Make sure it can do damage to the enemy. If you know the enemy near is strong, make a strong trap. If they are weak, you can lessen the anti. Make sure the trap is at least enough to take away half their health.

-Radius
No need to make the traps around the entire biome. Just around an area enough to suffice the need for protection.

Members:
A group of misfits, or a group of diplomats, the members are always important.

-Loyal and Trustworthy Members
You should definitely reward these members somehow, for all they've done for the faction. I suggest you make these people Mods.

-"Senior" Members
These members have been with you for a long time. You should really make them an important part of the faction, such as tactician, or Raid leader.

-Traitors
The members who betrayed your faction. They could've stolen, greifed, sabotaged a raid, give away private information, or anything else! You should punish these members, with execution, and then set out a manhunt.

-How you know whether or not to trust someone
Unsure of whether to let someone in your faction? Well, just give them scenarios, and they'd say what they'd do in that situation. Still unsure? Ask from other members. Still? *Sigh*Ask from factions and staff.

Well guys, I think that's enough, for now. I know this all from experience. I really hope I win! Fingers crossed! Diamond if you like it, don't if you don't. 'Til then. Cya!
