So, this is a question that has seeped in to my brain recently, seeing quite a lot of you guys seem to be using Gimp or other programs. SO my question is: Do use Skinning sites (if so, which ones) or do it manually (if so, how). You might have already guessed, a noob like me uses sites, but i was curious, and i wanted to improve my skins.
I use the MinersNeedCoolShoes skin-maker (http://www.needcoolshoes.com/), I find it useful and really easy to handle. What about you guys?

There are two different arguments at play here. Let's use a better analogy that might make more sense to people.

I use a fork to eat my cereal. It's weird, I know. It's the way I've done it since I was a kid, and people look at me weird sometimes when they see it. I like the way I can hook certain types of cereal through the prongs.

Somebody came along yesterday and saw this, and handed me a spoon. I've never used a spoon before in my life. I refuse to use it, though, because I've always used a fork and I feel it's the best for me. But.. what if I thought about it more objectively? A spoon would grant me more milk in my dips. It would let me gather more cereal pieces per round trip. It wouldn't hurt as much if I poked my mouth or tongue with it.

Start thinking objectively about what you use. If you've never used a different thing before, you probably don't even recognize the benefits of using something else. There is no harm in trying it, but you must also remain objective. If you sit there eating with a spoon but all you can do is complain about how you miss hooking the cereal on the prong or how you don't like liquids in your mouth, you won't get an understanding of the bigger picture. If you aren't going to be objective about it, then by all means don't bother and keep using what you are used to doing. Nobody is going to force you to do so - but it is a potential benefit that you are passing up just because of a subjective opinion you have.

Secondly, no, using forks doesn't mean you eat cereal any better or worse than somebody else. You're still eating food and chances are you just drink the milk straight from the bowl afterwards. It's just a different way of using it.

Of course, then you got the part pickers, the people who stick their hands in the box of cereal and shove handfuls into their mouths, spilling pieces everywhere and making the cereal useless for everybody else.

i use three things: the SeeJayKay skins pro creator app (i dont have mobile internet so i can use templates anyway), MCskin3D, and paint.net. i usually use paint.net for just touch-ups and to add the shading template layer (i made my own, btw), otherwise i priamrily use MCskin3D and the other thingy (not paint.NET)

Stick with McSkin3d. This is just an opinion, but I believe the majority of the skinners here on PMC use this editor and prefer it over the others. Google it.

True Skinners manually (or as how you'd want to say it) do their skins on downloaded programs like MCSkin3D, GIMP, Paint.net, Photoshop, etc.

This is because, unlike those online ones (where-in you can easily get accused of part-picking or stealing from a skin not created by you), these programs has special 'goodies and treats' added to them. Like how you can do different techniques easily on them rather than the online ones (Paint.net and Photoshop for the Transparent Pencil technique).

So, I would suggest you guys who hates on these to stop complaining that its just a waste of memory, because its worth it if you really want to be a good skinner, because you won't excel and won't be able to bring out your complete best just with these online skin makers.

I do not use sites. I use GIMP, McSkin3D or Paint.NET. Also, I see you use Miners Need Cool Shoes. I used to as well. The only issue is that in the 3D model on the side that the site renders things incorrectly compared to how they are rendered in game. I believe the site uses the old rendering system from the early days of Minecraft.

I use Paint.NET. Only time I've really used a site is to figure out how to do hats. Even then though, all I'm doing is looking at the template for where the hat goes. Other than that, it's all Paint.NET

The skin editors aren't banned either, because the skin editor is the skin maker itself, as long as you don't edit other skins and post it.

Yeah. But honestly, the programs you can use (MCskin3D, ect) are offline and if your internet is down, you can pop that open and skin with it all you want with no internet connection.
The program skin makers are what I use. (Just MCSkin3D)
