I'm looking to replace my GTX 650 with a newer video card. I came across the GTX 960 2GB SSC, how well should that perform in comparison to my current video card? Also, are there any better alternatives to that?

Performance wise, how many FPS should I get in games w/ high settings in general? Could I at least get 60fps at a 2048x1536 resolution with decent shaders on minecraft? I only get around 24fps with the GTX 650, and that's with other settings cranked down with lag spikes here and there.

with the Sapphire radeon R7 260x ($130) I usually get above 60fps on most games with my AMD FX-6350 cpu.

Personally if you can get a GTX 950 SSC+ i love it so much. it can play witcher 3 high settings 50 fps with slight fps flux at time, but it only drops around 5 fps, so its dealable with.
I can run gta max settings (minus the grass setting) at 60FPS
fallout 4 max settings 60 fps

You will see a very large improvement if you upgrade to the GTX 960, yes. But you have to remember that the shaders mod is very intense.

Also I would lower your resolution and set it to something with a 16:9 ratio for the game window because you will get a much better field of view that way, that's just personal preference though, you may like the 4:3 aspect ratio for gaming.

My main monitor is a 4:3 CRT, so i'd rather game at 4:3 on it because I get a full screen view.

I know it's $210, but the 2GB 960s aren't worth buying.

You should probably get 60FPS with shaders at that resolution.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but the 960 SuperSC ACX 2GB seems to look twice as large and it has two fans. That doesn't necessarily mean it's better than the superclocked 960 4GB, is it?

They both use the same chip (so performance is almost identical), but the EVGA card is clocked higher and has a beefier cooler. If you want to get the 4GB version of the SSC ACX 2.0+ card, it's $225.

It's a little above my budget, but I'll see if I maybe could get it. If I can't, would a higher clock speed or 4GB memory perform better? How does memory and clock speed effect the performance differently?

The minor clock speed bump you typically get with a factory overclock isn't worth losing 2GB over.

Okay I guess i'll just go with the 4GB 960.

Is it true though that 128-bit graphics cards can't handle over 2GB of memory?

Also, why is the other superSC card at least twice as wide if it's just a minor clock speed bump? Is it due to cooling reasons or something?

eehm, I get 60 Fps on minecraft at a slightly lower resolution than that with a scrubby Intel 4400 HD.
With the GTX 960 I'd say you can expect to average 100 fps on minecraft max settings with shaders, if not significantly more.

I think your GPU is definitely not the reason why you are getting such low FPS.

First of all, get optifine. It should give you a boost of about 20 FPS.

Then, get me a screenshot of your F3 menu. I'll be able to tell a bit more from that.

I'm getting that FPS with SUES (standard) shaders enabled. Without them, I get somewhere around 150fps with max settings and a 16 chunk render distance. Though I don't really care for anything above 60fps. (even though my monitor goes up to 160hz)

You get 60 frames per second on Intel HD Graphics while using shaders?

No, not using shaders. I get that with the settings he says he uses now to get 24 fps.

With a graphics card like that, the OP SHOULD get that performance with shaders if I get 60 fps with his settings.

last time I got 24 fps on vanilla minecraft I was surrounded by several hundreds of entities.
