Hey there!
So I was thinking about getting a new gaming laptop and the one I have been looking at is Alienware 18, but I heard it has a pretty bad battery and is pretty bulky. Also, its $4,500 currently, and I don't have that much money.

tl;dr: I want a good gaming laptop that's not that expensive but runs well

He already has a desktop, and you can't exactly put a monitor on your lap......

Laptop-wise I would go for an MSI Apache Pro or an Asus ROG laptop, and the Razer Blade is decent also but more expensive.

Either an Asus or a Razor, they both are good for gaming.

Totally agree, never used Alienware but I've seen so many goddamn poor results of them.
i recommend you also to not get a laptop from them.

Also, if you're getting a gaming laptop, prepare for bulkiness.

For laptops, Asus or Lenovo. Dell is also good in some cases.

I currently own and would recommend the Lenovo Y510p

It works very well and is only ~1300.

Rule #1 of buying a computer for gaming: Never Alienware. They are overpriced and overheat easily. One I recommend is http://goo.gl/ktG9tW. Good ASUS laptop for gaming.

It looks good! I am going to consider it. Thanks for telling me about the Alienware. It seems like reviews seem to miss out on the overheating.

Except I haven't tried Windows 8 yet. Is it good?

I suggest Lenovo, or Asus for laptops. But I'd recommend a desktop, but as you have one, that'd be useless.

And Windows 8/8.1 is amazing. Much faster than any other OS before it. It can be a pain to get used too at first, but within a few hours of use, you'll have it down pat. It's not a lot different than 7, once you play with it a bit.
