I was using a laptop with 4gb of ram with a 2.4mhz cpu and intigrated graphics. ran minecraft at 4 fps. my desktop with a 4.2/16gb/gtx460 gets 400fps.

Why waste the money on the cheapest thing you can buy just to have to upgrade again in another year? spend some money (about $700) and buy a pc that will be good for a few years before its no longer supported.

No no no.Thats not how APUs work.APUs need higher frequency ram to get higher fps to run.For instance 2400 would be better for APUs than 1866 ram,but it also comes with a price.546a1 you are partially correct. Not every good mobo needs a X87 chipset to be good for gaming.Look at AM3/AM3+ Chipsets. These are chipsets for the AMD FX line, these are beastly chips for gaming and video rendering. Also you don't need everything from intel to have a good PC.Thats like me saying you need everything from corsair to have a sexy sexy PC.CheesyRice, you completely incorrect.183 Watts will not support ANY ANY PC.Not even ones from the freaking 90's.For an APU put I would say go with 430+ just Incase they want a discrete graphics card later on.Also 4GBs of ram?You should stop smoking that good stuff.4GBs of ram is trash for a gaming APU.Matter of fact it's horrible for ANY pc.Even for business computers. One last thing though do not go over kill on the PSU because then the efficacy will go out the window. Also get a PSU or power supply from a good company like corsair, evga, cooler master, people along those lines.Bad ones can take your whole computer with it if it fails.Performance before Aesthetics, put that in mind. Sorry for the long paragraph, but this will explain all

Some people say to build a desktop, and ya dats a better idea, i would say. You can't get much under $350, but you might be able to if you really tried. Look at the pcpartpicker website. I made a little over your budget build here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3z8JM You will need a moniter, and etc, tho. Maybe increasing your budget to $500 would bring you good quality. Or you could just buy a laptop instead XD

Instead of a not-very-good cpu and a bad gpu id get an APU, as well as 4gb of ram since 8 wont be needed as a budget build. You dont need anywhere NEAR a 550 watt psu, the computer only needs 183. For 11$ more you can get a 1tb hdd.

First of all, any good gaming mobo needs a X78 Chipset or something from intel, and I don't llike the regular Intel graphics, so I get a new one. AMD has better integrated graphics, or atleast as far as I know. For the memory, I typically go with 8gb, just in case, but if 4gb works just as well, then alright. For a power supply, I was told that a better power supply makes parts last a little longer. And I would've chosen the 1tb if it was seagate, because a 1tb hardrive for so little can't be good. Western Digital also doesn't have a good rep with my dad, who's built multiple pcs.

A good PSU does not make parts last longer. It makes the PSU last longer because the quality is most likely better and it may have a better power efficiency, but it does not make a part live longer.

KillertoadThose wouldn't run minecraft on low very well, and those are all bids....that's not the smartest thing to do, if you build it, you know for a fact what you are gonna get, and warranties....

And you can go with 4 or 8, depends if you want to do other games as well.

4GB of RAM is enough for gaming as long as you're not skyping or multitasking. My laptop has 4GB of RAM and it can handle Minecraft on low settings and skype with Minecraft at about 45fps average. My new PC will have 8GB of RAM, and will be able to do that much faster. RAM ISN'T EVERYTHING THOUGH!

No, ram isn't everything, but remember, this is a APU, the more ram in bigger games, will mean more performance. It'll get lower FPS in BF4 with 4GB, while 8GB will get more.

jackel01 should'veActually, the limit is 30fps. Your eye can't see it, but your brain can detect it. Also when recording gameplay, you can make 60fps slow motion videos if you have at least 120fps.

Yeah, it's 29, but whatever, and I can see the difference, while you may not. But I'm sure you could feel the difference, 60 is smoother, 120 is even more smoother. But why pay more for less? Pay 350 for mine, and get 3-4x as much performance as a laptop.

jackel01Grays Online has some great deals. I got my first computer for just under $300 and it runs minecraft with 30 fps. It also plays heavier games like Oblivion, Half-Life, TF2 and Portal. (I love Valve :p) Also, he wants a laptop. Don't be 'That Guy' going, "Build a desktop Bla Bla Bla I can't read and I'm so great with computers".

He wants a laptop for Minecraft...You won't get one that'll run minecraft for under 350 dollars, so we suggest a desktop that'll run way better, and we cheaper.

I just wrote that got my first laptop for under $300 and it runs minecraft at 30fps.

Usually people want laptops at first but soon discover that they really don't need one and they'd rather have faster performance. Then they build a desktop.

The only thing I'd change from Killertoad's build is to get 4GB of DDR3-2133 or 1866 RAM, and maybe get an OS (usually new builders need one).

@OP I threw together a $330 build that could run BF4 on low, at 40ish FPS. And yeah, you may not play that, but you get guess how much it'd run on others. I'd max out minecraft at err, around 50-80 FPS.

If you really need a laptop:
Oh, OK then, this will be easy if it's only for Minecraft and everyday use. If you're not playing any intensive games like BF4 or Crysis 3, then this will be a good laptop for you. Sorry it's Win8 though. Just get Startisback. It's on the top edge of the budget, but for what you need will provide a nice bang for your buck.

If you can get a desktop instead, then build one.

I'm with 57 on this one. Unless you just HAVE to have a laptop, build a desktop instead. Laptops have very limited upgradeability. Minecraft wouldn't play on our 2.5 Pentium except on minimum settings, with only 12fps. and still lagged bad. My desktop is a 4.2 with 16gb ram and a gtx460. I can cut and paste 10mb world saves over with 300fps (without optifine). But my card runs 60 degrees Celsius doing it.
That's why I recommend desktops with a good card.

Gaming-wise, laptops are usually travel machines for "pro" gamers.
Basically, laptops are work computers meant for portability. However, companies make them into gaming PC's.

However, if you have a nearby Micro Center, check it out, as they have some AMAZING in-store deals. I found an i7 laptop with a MGPU for $550 there once, Im sure you can get a decent machine for $350 if you have a nearby Micro Center.

If you don't save up $100 more to get $450 and build a desktop or have someone build it for you. It's not that hard and is VERY rewarding.
