Windows 8.1 Microsoft vs Local Account

Hello everyone.
Basically, I am gonna upgrade my windows 8 to windows 8.1 and on Microsoft's website they say that it will be a good idea to switch to a Microsoft account, instead of the local account I am now using.
So, I am asking you guys: Is a Microsoft or local account best? Advantages vs disadvantages and such. I would like someones opinion who have tried it.

I like the idea of a microsoft account but its so poorly executed by microsoft, that I just use a local account.

I think your settings are saved if you go with a Microsoft account. That is why I use that.

I use it mainly cause I tend to forget my passwords a lot. so if I do I just do a password recovery from microsofts website and change it.
