Would it be "Ok" to buy a GTA game at my age?

I'm turning 14 in about 2 months and I'm kind of getting bored with my arsenal of games I currently have. I really enjoyed the TES series, and I enjoy open world games in general. So, I'm wondering if you guys think I would be ok to play a GTA game.
My friend says you can avoid any "Bad" content (at least for GTA 5).
And my Dad says I would probably be fine to play the games. But I just wanted some more input.

-Thanks

I think OP has enough opinions to be going along with now. This thread has also taken a serious turn for the worse in the references now flying around.

Im only 12 actually. My parents trust me enough to allow me to own it. I have my own income and good grades, etc. They allow me much more when i do what they ask and try to please them. They also understand that i am quite mature for my age and that is another factor. Well hopefully this helped!

And i thought i was a sheltered kid... I was 7 years old when i got my first GTA game, and most of my who friends played it since age 5. At those ages, we all understood that it was simply fiction and wasn't meant to influence our lives or present us with role models.

Anyone with a sense of reality can play GTA, and i know that if you are 14 you definitely know what the difference between fiction and reality, and it is about time you play it!

May I ask how a male -snip- star relates to GTA? There is literally no connection.

Well, it all just boils down to how mature you are.

Sure, it has swearing, nudity, drugs, etc. But thats life, you're gonna run into those anyway. you can't be sheltered for ever.

Thats basically my Dads approach on games, as long as theres somes some actual point/story to the game and it isn't over the top, then sure get it.

To be honest, I think GTA 5's age limit is too low, even as an 18. It has strong s-xual themes, swearing, nudity, + a lot more. 18 is still teenager age, and as a 17 year old, I'm not going to get GTA until I'm at least 20. I think San Andreas should be good enough as it isn't as graphic as GTA 5. Or even GTA 4..

Well, if your dad says it's ok, and nobody's got a problem with you playing it, go ahead. Enjoy yourself.

I honestly don't approve, but if your dad approves and has seen all of the not so good stuff, not just the killing (You know, the stuff listed above) , and is still okay with it, then I'm fine, I guess.

Don't go to strip clubs and you'll be fine. Yes, some bad words and drugs are in it, but hey, who doesn't know about that nowadays?

If your dad says you can play it and you want to but you have to ask random people on the internet about it. Then no I would say it's not good for you.

But seriously, age doesn't decide how mature you are. You can be 17 and still act like an 11 year old. It depends how mature you are. GTA V is rated M, for mature, which could be any age really. (except you know, like single digits).

I have Grand Theft Auto V. It's definitely worth the money but it's not necessarily about the age - it's more about the maturity. Yes, there is some slightly rude content in GTA but no one is stupid enough to do that anyway.

I say go ahead. Get it!

Exactly. Thats why I want to get GTA:SA. Its the most... "Friendly"...? I guess would be the word. Its in no way a Friendly game but, I think you know what I mean.

honestly i recommend GTA SA. mostly because of the SAMP mod for pc which lets you play online, i play it every day. but SA is also the least "offensive" of them, except the hot coffee mod.... lets not talk about that

yeah but moogle is a rebel

GTA is rated 18+

it is rated 18+ because it has adult content in it

therefore you have to be 18+ in order to play the game

if it were rated 14+ it would be off the shelves

Whether or not "Young" kids are ready to play games featuring mature content isn't really about age, it's more about if they're ready to cope with said content.

Like I said to the person above you. I was always raised with my Dad telling me that "A game is just a game" and that If I attempted anything bad I would get in trouble. I was thinking of buying GTA:SA, as it seems like that game has the least malicious content. It also sort of seems like one of the really fun ones.

Well, I was always raised with my dad telling me "This is just a game, you can't do this stuff in real life." and that doing so would get me in trouble. He always assured me this stuff and I know this by now. I would have to be really stupid to attempt anything in GTA irl.
