Ok so I just want to start by saying that I am planning for the future here and not currently requiring what I am about to describe.

I was just wondering how large Minecraft servers manage chat, I have a peak of about 10-15 people online and the chat can get hectic and I end up missing messages. Obviously /msg for private messages is a helpful feature but it still results in a very busy chat feed especially for admins with 'socialspy' on.

I dont want to discourage people from using chat as we pride our selves on being friendly server with good conversations however I was wondering how other servers manage this problem I was considering:

- Proximity chat solution so you have to be close to other players but this isn't ideal

Other than local chat or things like that, they don't manage their chat.
Everybody just talks.

Thankyou for your response I am not keen on splitting the chat like that but I may have no option....

Perhaps chat channels are something that might work for you?

There are lots of plugins available, here are a couple:

- http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/si ... tchannels/

Fraid I cant personally vouch for either of these, beyond them being updated. Good luck!
