Have latest edition of minecraft on laptop with Windows 8 (not 8.1). The game was running fine. For some reason it now loads very slow and says "Not responding" and about 1 min goes by and then it loads. This is after you are signed in and have clicked "Play". I have tried to download and install Forge (yes I know it is updated), I got it to work on another laptop, but the account on the other just doesn't seem to want to take, plus I cannot find the minecraft.jar file. two weeks ago it was there, now it is not. What the heck?!

Here is the latest log from tonight, now Jan 2, 2014

I have a few texture packs, but was only using one. LB Photo Realism x256 10.0.0-converted-1374012707213.zip

I have deleted the game and redownloaded it, nothing changes. I even "refreshed" the computer and it did the same thing before I refreshed it. (recover).

I need to get this game fixed. Please help me!!

Thank you!

I got Forge to work. But, with hers, mod .jar files just get dropped in the mods folder, but with his, I can do that with a few of them but most of his have to go into the minecraft.jar file. I like dropping the files into the mod folder a lot better than copying files into the minecraft.jar file.

I tried modding my Minecraft once... All I could get to work was single player commands because it had an auto-installer. Other than that, despite all directions and walkthroughs and instructions, I couldn't get my freaking Forge installed. The files are still in my .bin folder, but they don't affect the game whatsoever. Besides, After I got Forge, I wouldn't know where to put the mods that I downloaded anyways.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Patience is what is needed above all things to mod your minecraft...oh my goodness... I ended up having to factory restore the computer and then re-downloaded the game and each texture pack and each mod that is wanted. Getting mods is a little tough but I am working through it... learning that some mods require different versions...they love playing, so I get to learn all about how to install. Thank you again Oh... Apparently when I had to re-install the game, got the new launcher and only have to load mods to the mods folder since there is no minecraft.jar file. Thank you again for all your help.

I deleted all of the resource packs and minecraft.exe, re-downloaded exe and when I go into the .minecraft folder, bin folder is not there so minecraft.jar is gone. What do I do now? I had heard of having a clean copy, but don't you get a clean copy when you re-download it? At least I did not.

I have no idea what to do now. I played for a few minutes, but not a lot, just simple things. That worked okay. I don't know, I am all confused I know that.

Thank you!

Here's the answer to you .jar question:
I'm guessing you've played with the old launcher. This added a minecraft.jar to the .mine craft folder. However, after deleting the folder and using the new launcher, minecraft.jar is in your 1.7.2 folder in your versions folder, which is in .minecraft.

DasDurielthe resourcepakc you are using has a broken texture
just read the error log its realy simple

[21:34] [Client thread/ERROR]: Unable to parse metadata from minecraft:textures/items/compass.png

downlaod a new version or delete the broken texture yourself

yep, open your texture pack zip and navigate to the textures folder, then items, then look for compass.png. if it's not there, you need to make one.

I don't know what that means or how to fix it. I am completely new at this.

Deleted the resource pack or did you just delete the Minecraft.exe?

I deleted minecraft.exe and everything in the .minecraft fold. I had the resource pack saved to another folder along with the saved games. Did I need to redownload the resource pack as well? It keeps saying when its not responding that Java Binery SE? has to shut down. This is my first time working with minecraft, we just got the game for PC beginning of December and I do not know much at all about moving the files and what not. I am learning though.

The thing is I cannot find the minecraft.jar file anymore. I know it was there before. I probably messed up somewhere and not sure though.
