I have a mac and I am trying to set up a server... However whenever I run the server, it tells me the ip adress that it is running on is *:25565 . I tried changing this ip by inputting my home ip in the server.properties but every time that i run it like this it gives me an error message saying "perhaps there is another server running on this port"

what would i type for the ip if I wanted to make it more than a local host, so i could invite my friends on?

You would need to port forward. But on a shared IP this might be hard.

change it from 25565 to 25566 and then join localhost:25566

I share one... But i changed the ip back to nothing in server.properties

It screws it up more.
