Question regarding processing power
If I wanted to use my desktop PC to host a Minecraft SMP server so that I could work with a few other people on creations (probably maximum 10 or so), about how much processing power would I require to make it run at a reasonable speed?

@Skullcandy2010 Yes, you can run a server, but I recommend having at least 4GB of RAM. But the main thing that causes server lag is your up-link and down-link speeds. Check them here: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Ok, thanks. I would like to build a new computer soon as mine is quickly growing outdated (Dual Core Processor @ 2.2GHz and 2GB of RAM).
The only thing you need to worry about with that computer is adding 2 more GB of RAM and make sure you have a good up-link and down-link.
Processing power isn't as important and Memoery right now, most dual core processors can run the server, but you will need 1gb+ of free RAM to host the players. Bear in mind that is 1GB after the amount taken up by your operating system not before.
Hmm i have 4gb and its ok. but it depends on your internet speeds you have
Easily over 9000!! lol jk, i never got that far i get stuck on the whole "port forwarding" thing
