So - I was browsing the forums when I came across a forum post (you-had-server-what-would-t458947.html)
made by Nickolox asking what you would do if you owned a server - what it would be, ECT.

And I posted THIS:

Click to reveal
"First Of All - It'd be called Britannia - probably. It's what my country is :3

Well, it'd be a bit like Mineplex - only a little less popular. It'd probably have a games like Skyblock, SG, Capture the flag - any normal Minecraft server game. If I could, i'd probably make an area of theme parks and places using mods where you could fight as a favourite Transformer or a Dr Who V Daleks game where you were the DW's and Daleks were trying to attack you.

I'd probably make sure my staff were the most mature, most kind, most humorous, most grammar - correct people.

I'd make my server a friendly, kind, happy community, unlike no other!"

And it made me think - What if I DID do this? Or, something SIMILAR to it?

So - I want to find out if I CAN do this. And I also want to know stuff like;

Can I Host a Server For Free?
Is Bukkit A Server Host? (this may sound dumb but I d k)
How Is The Best Way To Set A Server Up?
Are there Plugins I Could Use To Set Up Things Like SkyBlock, Survival Games, ECT?
What Is The Best MC Server Website (For Free) Thing?
Anything Else I Should Know?

Please can someone answer these? if there are plugins, server hosts for free ect - please tell me and leave a link!

If you want to be hosting a relatively large server from home I recommend getting a used desktop computer of some sorts. Hosting something like that 24/7 on a laptop would not be the best option. Also, if you do get a used desktop, make sure it has a CPU good for single thread tasks because well.......minecraft -_-

You can find a benchmark from the best to the worst Single Thread tested CPU's here: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html

I usually go with this reference for Ram. I use 250mb-500mb for plugins and such, and each player uses around 50mb. So do the math for how many players you want
Also, when I said people don't do it for free unless they get something out of it, I mean they'll probably want money from you so then they'll host the server. You also don't want to go with a bad hosting company, so sometimes more money makes a more efficient server.

1. If you home host a server it's free.
2. Bukkit is an API used to run a server or create plugins for one.
3. I'd recommend using Bukkit or Spigot for a plugin server. (Bukkit is more favored)
4. If you go on the Bukkit website, they have many plugins you can get for your mini-games.
5. People don't host servers for free unless they get something out of it.
