Bump bump, wanna know how to use the GeForce 840m.
1
Ok it's not crashing anymore but how do I make it use the GeForce 840m?
1
Try downgrading from java 8 to java 7
1
This isn't about how good your hardware is. Go into 1.8, and change the render distance from 32 to 16. When Minecraft loads the options and detects that the render distance is over 16(in 1.7.x-) it will throw an exception regardless of your hardware. Also you'll need 64 bit Java.

How do I make Minecraft use my geforce 840m? In the Nvidia control panel it says that
minecraft.exe is using the "high performance nvidia gpu", but when I do f3, it says it's using Intel HD 4400 Graphics.
And I can't change the render distance because if I load a single or multiplayer world, it crashes.
I'm not an expert on the graphics switching thing built-in to laptops these days, but for not being able to change your render distance, you can change it from the options menu on the title screen.
1
Why is it that my almost-12-yr-old Windows Vista can load 32-chunks without crashing?! It's like, scaring me. Like wtf. People with Intel are crashing and have way better specs but my Windows Vista isn't?!?!
1
It looks like the game was rending a new singleplayer world, and crashed. As others have said, a 32-chunk render distance might be a little much for Intel HD 4400 Graphics; turn it down to 8 or 16 and see if that helps.

Put %appdata% in your start menu search bar, and delete .minecraft after backing up your worlds in the folder named "saves". Then launch minecraft.exe
1
This, and make sure to save that folder. You would not want any of your hard work to be gone.

Chunk render distance?

32
1
That's why. Turn it down to 16.

Do you have mods installed?
And please use spoilers for crash logs. Just do [spoiler] then say [spoiler] with a forward slash (/) before the s. I can't show you the exact format because it would appear as something different.
