So since I started Minecraft (1.4) the help page said you'd eventually be able to change your username. Now in 1.1 it says, "You will not be able to change your username. Make sure that you choose wisely." Notch, I was going to buy a new account in 1.6 when it was still cheap just to get a new username. Now it's around 30 bucks. This is highly disappointing to me as I've been looking forward to it for a few months.

Not a big deal to me personally. i chose my name right the first time.
Its not like you can change your name on anything without some sort of fee if being able to do it at all.
xbox: you have to pay to change it.
psn: you cant, must create a new one.
wow: not sure but i believe you must pay.
itunes: not happening
ect.
Despite the fact that they said you might have the option to change your name, next time plan ahead a bit better.

Okay, on reconsideration I know there are very easy methods to login to a server no matter how many times they ban or ipban you. However, allowing people to change names just adds a whole bag of logistical problems that aren't worth it imo.

I'm happy with my username and as Zaphod said since servers are not connected to Mojang (or Mojang can't change the files) it wouldn't update with your new name and therefore you change your name and... BAM more trolls.

meh. numbers make usernames look scientific, but use them right and it will be MATHEMATICAL!
I agree totally. I went through lots of struggles to contact Mojang and never got a reply. I set up a petition project here on PMC, if you want to help support it. I don't know if I am supposed to redirect users to a different post, but I'm gonna give it a shot since both of us are trying to get the same task completed. ->Join the petition to help persuade Mojang into allowing a name change on each account. I Agree, but lets say you are an op on a server , when you change your name , you will lose your rank.
Let the Owner know before you change it?....
I'm quite happy with my name. I bought back in InDev before Minecraft was really popular, and got good picking at a name.
Why don't ppl start their Minecraft names like real smart ppl do, Example : builderguy49

I agree. I picked my name a good one and a half years ago. Back in early Alpha, I pick that name. Now that I am a Youtuber and older, I no longer like the name.
