Lag Spikes

Any one else having a lot of lag spikes today with Minecaft either in single or multiplayer? They started about 5pm this afternoon (PST) for me and occur about once every 30 seconds lasting between 2 to 5 seconds.
Nothing in my game has changed, all settings, including opti-fine, are the same. Nothing running in the background and virus free.
Just starting to really piss me off. (I am running the latest version of Java 7 btw and my video graphics haven't changed either. Same as they were when the game was stable a day ago.)
At times I really wonder why they focus on new content when they can even fix the fucking bugs the game already has.
Version 1.2.5 (mods - standard ones.... opti-fine, too many items, spc, and mineral detector.)

Maybe turn the quality down or play Minecraft in fullscreen (F11), that somehow always works for me.
