The newest luncher has a huge Play button on the bottom middle of the launcher window. If you don't have internett connection you will have the optioin to play offline too.
The "Profile:" is on the left side wiht "New profile" button and "Edit profile".
"New profile" button is used to log in and add other minecraft profiles into the same launcher.
"Edit Profile" is used to choose what version of minecraft you want to play, you can rename your profile save name and you can also choose what profile you open.
On the right side your user name and password are, if your logged in it stands
"Welcome, [name]
Ready to update & play, [minecraft version]
If not logged in it would stand
"Welcome, guest
please login to play"

I wish there was an option to play offline
There is a "Play offline button"
If your not connect to internet its going to stand on the middle "Play offline"

There is an option but not on the new launcher, if you want to play offline i suggest MagicLauncher.
The second image is where you choose which account you want to log into. It has one account already logged in, and if you wanted to change/add accounts, you simply put the info there.

First of all, the launcher updated a while ago, so I'm pretty sure we've all noticed it.
Second of all, if this is a discussion about the launcher itself, I am all in all content with it. It has a plethora of options that I can easily see being expanded on, a somewhat decent aesthetic, and it didn't make installing mods ten times harder, as I expected it would. In reality, the only problem I myself see is that it causes the somewhat odd picture you pointed out below, where it asks for your email and password, but in reality it isn't confusing at all, since it is just asking you whether you want to play on one account, or play on a different one, but still, it seems a step that was well integrated into the previous version of the new launcher by simply having the option tucked away in a corner.
