It's a pity we can't have HD skins. The only way you can get HD skins at the moment is replacing you char with one =/ They should give you an option.

But if they make so you can have HD skins without mods, that means I'll have to spend double the amount of time on one skin. My attention span won't last that long!

i definitely agree. There is a mod which allows you to do this, but there are only a handful of skins to choose from.

You can use texture pack char.png skins
