Just wondering what render distance people are using in Minecraft. (Also the results helps with my map.)

2-3.
Because if I set the render distance over 10 usually my laptop's fps drops to 1 and I'm unable to do anything but hold ALT+F4 for about 10 seconds. This crashes my game, and about 5 minutes after it's closed and my fps is at 30 again when I set it to 2.
This kinda explains why I never upload that much stuff. Because I can't see what the hell I'm uploading :'D

You should invest in a desktop. You can build one quite cheaply, and they work great. I built one a few years ago on a $400 budget.
Personally, I use normally 16 as my render distance. I could manage with 32 but it takes a long time to load fully and it takes loads of performance and fps.

If it's on my rig at home, I use 16 because servers never even go past that, and I never play singleplayer.
It also depends on whether I have mods/shaders or not. If it's just vanilla or something, I crank it up as high as possible, maybe up to 24 or 32.
If it's on my laptop with crappy integrated graphics, I keep it around 5-7.

This is the precise reason Minecraft needs to be C++. Windows 10 edition by default has AMAZING render distance and causes little to no lag on the computer's end. Seriously, create a super flat world in Windows 10 edition and fly up so you can see everything. It's amazing the way things are loaded.
*ahem* Getting off topic.
But I do 12 render distance since it's usually the default, and what's used in the majority of maps that I play.

Yeah (btw I have 8 on render distance because 8 is a power of 2 And apparently also the same as "Normal" render distance used to be)
Problem is sometimes C++ is quite annoying
(to program in, also it's not as easy to make it cross-compatible)

How do I play MC, you ask?
I just cope with it somehow...........

Wow.. You all are using very high render distances! I'm always on 2-3 with my 10 years old laptop.
10-12 Because of servers.
13-16 is what I use on vanilla survival, all the way up to 18 (13-16 was my vote). On servers I do around 12 and on modded survival 8-9.
I only use larger render distances when I want to take scenic shots, but when I'm playing I go for 7-9.
I normally use 16 since server don't support higher render distances, and 32 takes to long to load in
7 - 9 If I'm lucky because I have a terrible computer.
I always use 32. My PC can manage it without lagging and I never used shaders.
I always use 4-6 because my shaders can't handle anything after that, xD
Depends, if I'm playing standard then 32, shaders, Chroma Hills. but if I'm in Vivecraft I have to dial it right down to minimum else I get motion sickness
I do 10-12 because it's just about right for me on a laggy server, and gives me plenty of FPS on a fast server.
About 4-6 because I have a bad computer.
10-12 Because it loads faster then 20+ Its a little by the middle and because I am used to it.
32, I like seeing EVERYTHING!
4-6 just cuz
I chose 13-16 because I like the middle vision.
2-8 cause my internet and graphics are laggin pretty much on larger distances.
(selected 4-6)

You have to remember servers have set max render distances so minecraft can say you're render is higher than it is...
i always use 6 or 8 because i hate beings able to see too far but that isn't and option
I usually use 18 since my computer isn't that good.
