It's not any harder than it is on Windows, in fact, I find Windows and mac much easier than Linux.
Why not do it on single player? if the reason is plugins just start a local server.

You can always use a creative server. You don't need to own a server in order to build on one. You can always make your own server on your pc to build on or join an existing one. We aren't going to spend money on a server for you to build by yourself. It will be a waste of money and time for the person owning it.
