Can't install texture packs on my mac

Hey there folks, rather annoying as I can't install anything mc related on my mac, I'm not an idiot (well not much of one) and I know HOW to install texture packs, my problem is that my minecraft folder is completely empty, and if i download a texture pack which would normally be dragged into my mc folder, it is nowhere to be found, i've checked that it isn't hidden, reinstalled etc etc
any ideas?
in further clarification, my problem seems to be with the mc folder itself on my mac than anything else

You'll need winrar for some texture packs.When you install winrar , go to the start bar , search "Run" and then type "%appdata%" then go to the .minecraft folder , then go the texture pack folder and it's simply drag and drop.
Make sure it is in your texturepack folder which is in your .minecraft folder. If it's over 16x16 you have to get winrar or 7zip.
