You may find this piece of info to be completely unrelated to the rest of the topic, but every holiday or break from school, ever since freshman year of high school, (I’m finishing up my second semester in college now) I have gotten sick. It is currently spring break for my school, and once again I am sick for an unknown reason.

Anyways back to my topic.

The last 3 nights have been terrible for me. I am a heavy sleeper. I need at least 9-11 hours of sleep a night, sometimes more, rarely less. But the past 3 nights, I have only slept a combined total of maybe 4 hours, not of my own control mind you.

The first night I was tossing and turning, going to sleep one moment, and waking up a few minutes later. The first night I just got my sickness, and I was very hot, even though I had multiple fans on in the room, and my window wide open. I live by the beach, so I get a fair amount of wind daily, it helped, but not much.

The second night, I was walking the fine line between being asleep and being awake. I thought I was asleep, but I honestly couldn't tell. I could tell that I was lying down in my bed, but I was aware of everything around me for hours. I could see everything take place, but at the same time, I could see my dream overlapping reality. It was like I was stuck in an area of sleep that was trying to cover a lot more area of being awake, so I could be fully immersed in sleep. But there was a wall separating these two areas. I was trying to knock down this wall, but something kept building it up, higher and stronger this time. I guess you could call it some kind of sleep purgatory.

The third night, which was last night for me, was a combination of the first two nights. I was very partially asleep, while, at the same time I was awake; but this time my eyes felt like they were burning. I couldn’t sleep well again, and I already knew that this was going to happen. I tried to sleep anyways knowing full well that this was very likely to happen, I don’t know why, probably the need to sleep a little bit.

I really need your help. I don’t frankly know what to do. I know that this will continue if I try to sleep again, but I don’t want it to continue, and I don’t want to stay awake the entire time I’m sick knowing full well what will happen if I try to sleep a few hours. I’ll take any advice anyone can give me. This is starting to become my personal hell.

I agree with Josephpica in this instance. Try vaccuuming your house, replacing air filters, dusting, etc. Also I agree with Azie. Visit a doctor or other specialist that can help you.

Enviromental allergies run in my family, I've got them myself. We were also sick for about a month on and off, then we cleaned all our bed sheets and did the other things I mentioned above. Worked great.

I do hope you feel better soon!

No. That website looks pretty damn different from PMC, so he'd have noticed if he was writing on the wrong website. Plus I doubt Problems.com has a forum.

As Azie said, go see a doctor about it.

I agree with Azie here. to elaborate, I've had my own sleeping problems for my whole life, but it got really bad sometime last year.

Basically, I would not begin to feel tired until 3 AM. As a result, I ofc couldn't sleep properly during nights and could not go to school in the mornings because I slept straight through my alarm clock (3 or more separate alarms).

I went to my local doctor, and asked them to refer me to a sleep specialist. I then had a 2-day test with all sorts of sensors plastered to me, to register my sleep patterns. I also had a bunch of smaller tests
One of the results was that my body did not produce melatonin normally.

melatonin (melatonine in my language), is the natural hormone/chemical thingy that makes you feel sleepy. Without it, you won't feel sleepy until you begin to keel over from exhaustion, which may take 24h or more.
My body didn't start producing it until noon, which is a few hours before I WOKE UP with my bad sleeping pattern. It's supposed to start several hours before you go to sleep.

even when it did start producing melatonin, the amount was way below normal.

as a result, I now get a combination of light therapy and melatonin supplements. We haven't found the underlying problem yet, but I am now at least capable of functioning somewhat like a normal being. if I take my supplements (0.6 to 1 mg of melatonin, I switch it based on need) around 8PM, I can go to sleep at 12, and wake up NATURALLY before 9Am, which for me feels like a miracle. Note that I also take an active form of vitamins B6 and B11, which seem to help speeding up my wakeup process.

EDIT: but yes i agree, you should see a doctor

So let me explain here while i listen to G-Dragon.
Your brain, {if you were like this as a child} Will do the basic sleep pattern it learned from your youth when its a holiday. Now the whole "being sick thing"
i have this exact same thing, and im going through the exact same sleep thing right now.
Past 2 weeks iv gotten maybe 38 hours of sleep total.
But the thing with you being sick during holidays.
As my doctors put it to me. is a sort of placebo effect put in place by your brain as a sort of fail safe to avoid a=having to actually do anything during your break. iv had this exact same thing for alot of my life.
Christmas break. Sick. Birthday. Sick. Spring break. Sick. anything day off from school/work. Sick. My doctors blame it on my mental conditions but thats just me. but no, i know how you feel about this entire thing.
only advice i can give as someone who knows this.
Avoid heavy sleep agents like mass ammounts of Zquill or muscle relaxers {Uneless you NEED them}
Id say use a light sleep aid to help you get going. take it around 9Pm, and at around 11-12 take something else sleep enducing. And if this does not work. just lay, close your eyes. and just lay their, Eventually your brain will shut down and allow you to atleast sleep a slight bit.
if you wish to talk this over more feel free to start a PM convo with me

Similar things have happened to me, basically what you're describing but sepearated and a bit different. A few years ago I got cold during many weekends for some reason, but it just disappeared and has never happened again (except for the times I've been having the flu and stuff).

I've also experienced it being very warm certain nights, and waking up because of that. It doesn't happen that often though, and not during any specific time. My classmates have apparently experienced the same thing or atleast something similar so idk.

What you're experiencing could possibly be the same as my sister did and if so you should probably go to the doctor since she did

Totally normal.

@OP, go to the doctor, seriously. This is PMC, not OnlineDoctors.gov
