Separate Section for AMAs?
Greetings,
First, I'd like to blame Paril. The amount of AMA threads on this site exploded soon after he posted his.
Second, I'd like to push introductions into this bundle. Paril may not've posted one, but SOMEBODY made it hip for old members to do them.
Third, I'd like to propose a way to deal with both. Simply, could the 'intro' section of the forums be renamed 'Intros & AMAs'. Simply, could those threads not make their way into the last twenty posts section? Questions and posts like: 'what does Uranus look like', and: 'Hi! ' are clogging up the place, hiding legitimate discussions/questions ('What's wrong with my computer?', 'Will you get an XBox one with the new policies?')
Thoughts?

Yeah, I'd say we don't really have nearly enough of them going on to justify renaming a section.
I'd really expect them to die out in a month or so.

KCUROVSnowylipsWhile I think it would be good, AMA's are a dying fad, much like other fads PMC has gone through. It would be unnecessary to create an extra part of the forums for something that is only temporary. Even now, the rate of AMA threads have dropped off, soon enough they'll be buried in other topics, making a re-emergence in a year or so.
Except for that "blame paril" one, apparently.
Oxford Pocket Dictionaryfad
/fad/
Noun
An intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, esp. one that is short-lived; a craze.
Synonyms
whim - caprice - vagary - fancy - crotchet
So then, pretty much by definition..

True, however they still become annoying.
Say a new forum-based fad came up. Might it be possible to set a filter, catch all related threads, and automatically dump them in a folder that isn't connected to the twenty last posts section?
While I don't know how difficult that'd be, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard..

There'd be no automated way to restrict such. That'd only make more work for PMC's already-busy staff reel.

*poke* Might any mods be kind enough to drop by?

I agree with bear. This will happen soon.

Ah.. interesting.
I want to believe the old member intros, along with AMAs, are little more than fads (sad to say, PMC does get those). Unfortunately, both have been going strong for a while now.

HyJaffa didn't you just poat an AMA?

An AMA Is an Ask me Anything post. Basically people do it because their bored and want something to do in my opinion. I don't think they should even be up on the post sidebar. Just wastes space like thats all there is now.

what is an AMA?

An 'ask me anything', thread.
They sound like a good idea. They quickly become a bad idea when your aunt and her cat open one (each). They quickly become a worse idea when people start asking inappropriate/foolish questions.
Want an example of both? Search through the twenty last posts.
