You can design special designs on them, for example, create a world on survival and do /give @p minecraft:banner 1 0 {BlockEntityTag:{Base:1,Patterns:[{Pattern:sku,Color:0},{Pattern:cr,Color:13},{Pattern:cre,Color:10},{Pattern:sku,Color:10},{Pattern:bts,Color:12},{Pattern:bts,Color:14},{Pattern:tts,Color:12}]}}
