Is the screen turning on? If you can't tell, take it into a dark room, and it should light up. If the screen does not turn on try plugging the charger to the laptop and powering on. If the screen does not turn on even with the battery charger hooked up try removing the battery and the power supply and hold down the power button 30 seconds. Now plug in the AC adapter and try to start it. Yes, a battery can be so dead it keeps the laptop from powering on. The power supply might also be dead but unlikely if the indicator light comes on next to where you plug it in. If nothing is fixed then it is probably a power supply or battery issue, because even with the CPU not working, the CPU fan should still power on (I believe so anyway). Batteries don't cost too much and are easily replaced. Since you have a newer laptop you shouldn't have trouble finding a new one.
If the screen Does turn on, then I believe you have a dead CPU or Motherboard. These are most of the time, not worth replacing because of cost, and it takes a lot of work to install. If the CPU is dead then it would be best to start looking for a new laptop.
