Another good idea for a base is a skybase. What you do is get a lot of blocks together, tower up to almost the sky limit, and build your base. The only bad thing about sky bases is that they are hard to modify. The solution to this is to make a larger base than you think you will need, saving room for anything that you might remember or need later. Many people don't constantly look up at the sky when looking for bases, giving your base a good chance of not being noticed at all.
