I personally think the Earth is older than 6,000. I don't know if it's 13.7 billion, but I think I've read enough things to convince me that it's not somewhere in the thousands. It seems that the 6,000 years theory comes from a particular way of interpreting the Bible. I'm not going to disrespect anyone who follows such an interpretation since it's not really apostasy or anything to hold such a view, but it's not my way of interpreting it. I kind of follow a less literal interpretation of the Bible than some others do, so therefore I don't necessarily interpret some stuff about numbers of years and whatnot as being what they are at face value because sometimes things do not always mean what they appear to mean. There can be stuff like particular historical or metaphorical things which put some verses into context. This doesn't mean I think the Bible is entirely metaphorical or that I make up my own interpretations of the Bible, but rather that the Bible doesn't always mean what it looks like it means and that proper discernment related to both scientific and theological studies is needed. Theologians, apologists, clergy, and other such authorities need to not only be aware of what the Bible says but also particular things related to science, history, and other subjects in order to make wise judgments.
