Also, yes, I'm still working on the Update Series - that's the biggest priority on the list right now. But I still want to keep you guys posted just so you know I'm not like, gone or anything.

Kinda ironic that 1.21 is the release that's going to make what I'm adding with 521 a lot less interesting ... The feature that caused it is a good change, I just find it to be a bit ... ironic.

Just learned today that if you haven't migrated to Microsoft from a historical Mojang account, your account is permanently deleted and you have to buy the game again.
Even if you have the receipt of the original purchase.

Heck, to this day you can still migrate your old YouTube account for free.
17 years after YouTube's acquisition to Google, that deal held on.

Props to SalC1 for doing the experiment and confirming this with hard data.

I'd still make the comparison if it is since the point is still there.
It's probably even worse for Microsoft if that's actually the case, regardless of if the YouTube migration deal is still held.

Another random piece of trivia: The file containing the things I need to know in order to port any given project to 1.20.5 is around 200 lines long, and counting! As a reference point, the same file with the things I need to know in order to port from 1.20.2 to 1.20.3 is only around 30. (the count is 27 if you were wondering)

Bit of context here: For every new release, I used a self-made tool called the "Patch Notes Grabber" to get information off a given update log, or a series of snapshots leading to a big update and merges all that into one mega update log (if the update log itself isn't out yet), then carefully sort through the resulting data for the stuff I need to pay attention to in order to bring a project to a given release.

It's standard practice for me now, but I never really talked about it since it's more of the boring bits, but I still need to let you know I'm still bringing this to 1.20.5, this'll just take a while for me.

I'm starting to think that this bug is on its track to becoming the 2nd Damage Wobble bug.
It was a thing once, got removed, then many years later was re-implemented again and felt like a new feature.
(Technically this one was never a thing, but alternatives existed that did the same thing - all of which were removed instead)

If 1.21 is released without this bugfix I'll look for another path to bring back "/nameless" to Villager Names myself. (Hopefully there'll be another way around it by then)

3 days later, I got a brand new tool out of it. This'll help me shave off a ton of time posting stuff (and managing them) across multiple platforms.
look, building a parser from scratch is tough beans, alright?

Decided to speedrun HTML and CSS in 4 hours - I'll need them for future update shenanigans.
Just the basics of them anyway, I can always improve it later on.

One of the things I'm implementing in this update asides from a full system rewrite is a new way to customize my datapacks!
This is an idea I had back when we got 1.20.2, but it took me up until now to finally be able to implement it system-wide. I have to rewrite the system anyway, so might as well.
(Note: by "system" here I mean all the packs I've made since 1.20 and am currently updating)

Yes, Version 20d1 (coming soon) will be designed for both 1.20.5 and 1.20.6, given the features we've seen in that release so far.
It's exactly the same deal as it was in 1.20.4.

    I'll be seeing "Where's 1.20.5" comments soon.
When that comes, I'll save a link to this post as a response so I don't have to copy and paste the same post over and over again. Here goes:

I manage 20 projects currently. Short version: It takes time. (Progress updates on Discord)
    Long version:
My updates take time to complete as I properly go through each of them to see which features I'd need to improve to match the current version's meta, if there is any.
I'm also using latest techniques available on the version I'm designing it for to make sure my packs are the best they can be on release, and it takes time to discover what these new techniques are.
My datapack creator tool Scripter helps, but like any tool, it needs a person to be used to make stuff with.

Bit of a long default response, but the recap is the same across all my releases.

A small comment on the massive changes 1.20.5 is bringing to the table and it's massive effects to datapacks and custom maps as a whole:

I think the hardest thing with making the ideas I wanted to make happen into a datapack is that a lot of the times it's really really hard to do so efficiently, and some other times, Mojang would step in and mess with your stuff, and without the reach needed to overrule the thing they've irreversibly changed, you kinda just have to live with the storm.

It's understandable if because of that or any other reason, creators would prefer mods over datapacks since they can do what they want on a version they choose to do it at (basically removing Mojang's effect on things, at least partially, if you've read some of my secret Patreon dev posts), and if they choose to do so, we should still support them for it, because at the end of all this, they've spent the hours that could've been spent in other ventures that'll most likely give them way more money, to make sure you get the best things possible, in the best way that they can.
(Wait, I've been making datapacks for 5 years? Time flies, man.)

As for me? I'll just live with the storm and do my best to make sure all my projects I've made in the 1.20x series get a proper update to 1.20.5. I personally find the storm to be a challenge, a problem that I'm slowly overcoming with Scripter - which, in a way, is like the hand-crafted ship I'd built to weather this storm.
But also because I wanted to experience the latest stuff the game has to offer with the tweaks that I've personally made to enhance the game the way I find fun to play.

But anyways, enough of that, the updates are coming.
I'll leave update details on Discord if you wanted to check those out.

I know that technically a datapack can stay at a given release too, but unlike mods, datapacks are more reliant on the tools that Mojang provides in each new release. So something I wanted to make back in 1.13 for example, can't really be made efficiently until way later on. It's kinda why I have a long list of old ideas. I just kept them all, even when I know it's not doable, so when it is, I can start messing with it.

At some point I'll make it possible so everyone could quickly make packs with my custom datapack creator Scripter.
I'm not confident with showing the tool as it is now, as it was only built to suit my weird style, so it likely won't help anyone as it is.
But someday, when I have a lot more time to spend on datapack shenanigans, I'll work on a version that can be used by a more diverse set of people, and release it by then.

    Anywho, 1.20.5 is coming.
Working on upgrading all my projects, more news in the Discord Server. See you soon!
