The issue really is those sites have their own list of ads they run. Adfocus which is what Forge uses is way more "controlled", but even they have issues with ads at times. And Forge works directly with them too.

I'd love to get rid of them, don't get me wrong. It causes nothing but headache for me. It's just that sadly, it's not realistic to ban them without a huge backlash to our sites (I deal with MCF as well and this exact conversation happens there).

We have been internally discussing ways to try to help alleviate it without negatively cutting into the users who make the content, but we're not at a stage to do anything about it.

The point is, banning it *would* mean that a lot of content makers would not use our site, because now they can't make even a little bit back to cover their time spent to make it. Sadly, we don't live in a world where things are free.

This has been an ongoing debate for *years*. There is no good alternative that can safely replace such things, and cover all forms of content.

Curseforge is only really great for mods and maybe resource packs, but it doesn't compensate as well, and requires that you give up some rights to your content.

More correctly, those aren't "3rd party downloads". Those are monetary links, which are designed to help the user who uses them get paid to have users go through it.

By using it for downloads, it's a "simple and free" (the quotes being very sarcastic) way to make money off the content they just made.

What you want to is ban *that*, which means people can't have a quick and easier way to make money.

This is not uncommon to see in the Minecraft community, and it's actually used by the largest and more important ones. Even Forge uses those links because making content is not free, and certainly isn't if you have to do any form of hosting yourself.

This is mainly for security. Since jars are "executable", a user could upload a malicious jar which would be malware when ran outside of Minecraft. By putting it in a zip, it prevents users from just clicking and running those files right from the download.

We don't manually review each and every file, so this tries to help reduce the risk of malware being shared.

That said, I understand the annoyance, since mods are jars. I'll talk with Cyp about it and see if we can look at reconsidering this.

At the point your content was removed, there was a rule which stated that MCreator mods were not permitted at all.

Earlier this year, we removed that rule and simply changed it to be that it must not be a "spam mod" which means that it takes no effort to make or provides no value to the community.

Rules can and will change, so using the current rules to argue that something wasn't handle right several years ago (which can have drastic differences) is a bad way to argue a point.

As long as your content isn't generic and simple, then we do not care if it's made with MCreator. "New tools which are just vanilla tools but in a new block!" is for example generic, and isn't permitted (regardless if MCreator is used or not). New dimension with several new blocks and mobs which have some unique aspect can be permitted, even if MCreator was used.

Diamonds are not the only way any contest we do is used to determine a winner.

Diamonds are just a very small part of it. Having a lot of diamonds doesn't mean you'll win at all.

    • Concept & Originality : Fresh, new ideas and crazy concepts! Try to do something new, differentiate yourself from the status quo and show us what you're made of.

    • Technique & Execution : Color, shape, texture - be sure your build flows together and represents what you are trying to accomplish.

    • Presentation & Experience : Presentation of a build can really help to make an impression. Be sure you've got good screenshots, spend some time on the post!

None of those are handled by diamonds, and each judge decides where they rank in their own view.

Stop telling people to PM site mods. This is why the tickets exist.
