Mod for Minecraft 1.7.3 (and 1.6.6) that changes the way render distancen is calculated, so that it is many times greater than the original.

nI've now added a "lite" version as well that is essentially double view distance instead of "4x". See download links below.

nThe actual distance seen is half of these values, because the values aren basically a "diameter" and the player is at the center. Higher values nwill GREATLY lower performance, because the increase in chunks isn't nlinear with the increase in view distance. If you have a view distance nof 512, for example, the game will load 1024 chunks (512/16 = 32, 32*32 =n 1024); if you have a view distance of 1024, the game will load 4096 nchunks, 4 times what it loaded with a view distance of 512. The max viewn distance will be loading 16,384 chunks, which is 16 times the amount nthat the smallest view distance loads, even though the "view distance" nvalue only increases by 4 times.

n> If you're looking for this mod, I assume you have a powerful ncomputer. I am testing/creating it on a computer with a Q9550 CPU at 3.7n ghz, 4 Gb of memory, and a GTX 470 GPU. It greatly reduces performance,n especially when using "far". I suggest to disable advanced OpenGL, then game runs smoother for me when using something higher than "tiny".
