DRINK or DIE - the hydration mod!
version 1.0.2 - for Minecraft 1.4.6.

This is a server multiplayer mod for a bukkit SpoutPlugin server. Requires Spoutcraft (for clients) in order to function correclty (and for the players to see the custom GUI).

This mod adds another dimension to your Minecraft experience on your survival server. In addition to avoiding death from starvation you will also have to avoid dying from dehydration. So keep that leather pouch with you at all times to combat thirst! If you're not careful and you become dehydrated, you will start hallucinating, and you will continuously lose health until you either drink, or die.

This mod includes:
  • Hydration bar
  • Hallucinations when dehydrated
  • One new craftable item: leather pouch that can be filled with water
  • Admin commands.
This is my first implementation of a more difficult survival mod suite for gamers who prefer a challenge. By downloading this mod and submitting feedback, you will ultimately help this mod to become whatever the community would like it to become.

Available commands:

/drinkordieenabled true/false: enable or disable the mod.
/restorehydration: restores the hydration level of the calling player to max value.
/thirstperiod value: Sets the thirst period. The default value is 1500, but the user is encouraged to experiment with this and try to find a good value and maybe tell the rest of us?

Planned additions:
  • More complex algorithm to dehydration
  • More items
  • Hydration bar animations
  • Ability to drink water from water blocks (Highest priority)
The mod works 100% with its current functionality.

Please give me feedback!

Version history:
  • Version 1.0.0
    • Initial release

  • Version 1.0.1
    • Added ability to drink water directly from a water block
    • Bug fixes

  • Version 1.0.2
    • Images are included in the .jar instead of loaded from the Internet.
    • Big refactoring.

Disclaimer: This mod works on Minecraft version 1.4.7. The server uses craftbukkit and spoutplugun version 1.4.6, but they are compatible since 1.4.7 is a client update.

I'm sorry, but this just should not be a mod. Jeb and Dinnerbone need to put this in the freaking game. They already have bottles of water and milk, so they wouldn't have to program any items. And it would be the same thing as hunger, so not that much harder to code.
Jeb, pay Sane and put this in the game.

Great mod, but just a suggestion, you could put the thirst bar over the hunger bar.

Yes! Great mod! Thank you so much! I have been looking for a mod that makes things harder like this! Great mod man!

It'd be nice to have a slight chance of disease from drinking unfiltered water (10% or so). You could decrease it to 5% by using a filter (reusable, possibly with a durability like the anvil), or to 0% by boiling it to kill the germs after it's been filtered.

Or not, this is still a great mod! :D

Try moving the hydration bar over the hunger bar, would be a lot easier to read :D

New items are coming in the next patch :)

Diamond and ideas :

- You can drink water out of a bottle, the ones that you use for brewing

- Milk heals your thirst bar

- Mushroom stew heals both your hunger and thirst bar

- You can create new drinks, by doing things such as grinding up apples to make apple juice

i agree, apple juice, milk and water are clever but other potions? Should they have effects too? and some foods having a negative affect on your thirst bar (like salty things for example) or your current biome? (where snow it goes down more slowly but desert its a bit faster)

I've actually been experimenting with the thought of negative effects of food (diseases) and also adding different effects on you depending on temperature. Wouldn't it be great to have use of your leather armor? When you enter a snowy biome you would freeze in you diamond/steel armor and would have to switch to leather. Same thing with deserts I guess, but no clothes at all? xD Maybe introduce a nice hat for the sun?

Anyway, I'll start to work on the next update in a few days :) I think I'll start with new items.

lol, at least i have fur so when im in a desert with this mod (as you described it) i have nothing to be embarrassed about :3

but yeah, i agree, i only ever wear leather anyway though in snowy biomes because i can dye it white and be a camo-fox

Unfortunately this is a server mod, so no. You can however set up a server on your computer and play on it like you normally would. :)

Can you please make a single player version?
Edit Reply Delete
I don't think plugins belong here....

but whatever. Seems like a pretty good plugin.
Edit Reply Delete
Plugins are counted as mods, actually. Plugins are basically just server mods.
