[This mod was not created by me but was revived by me after GnomeWorks left it to die in Beta1.5_01]
I have made some modifications to it such as increasing the crafting difficulty (using golden apples) and some bug fixes.
Installation:
Option 1:
Put everything thats in the zip into your minecraft.jar
Option 2:
just put the zip file into the ".minecraft/mods" folder
[the following is copied directly from http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/231082-/]
So much for a day at the beach.
Swords? So passé. Guns? Too vulgar. Meteors? Now that's what I call a weapon.
This is an "update" to Ethereal's meteorite mod, which was made as a response to this request.
While this is an update of sorts, it is more of an overhaul of how Ethereal's mod worked, in that it makes a mob rather than a block that falls from the sky. Doesn't sound that different, but coding-wise, it really, really is.
Basically what this mod does is make meteorites fall from the sky, explode when they hit the ground, leave behind a mostly-spherical mass of ore blocks of randomly-determined types (coal, diamond, etc etc), and can set nearby blocks on fire after exploding.
The meteorite will *always* spawn at a height of 128, and *only* if there is at least one air "block" below it.
There is an options file generated after running Minecraft for the first time after installing the mod. Instructions for modifying it are included in the text file in the download. The options file is completely rewritten with each revision of this mod. Almost every aspect of this mod can be modified in the options file, including turning the entire mod off.
Meteor summoners are turned off by default, and can be turned on in the options file. Item ID for the summoner is 9000.

To use a summoner, point it at a block and right-click. The block must have a clear view of the sky. If it can't summon a meteor at that block, nothing will happen; if it can, it summons a meteor at height 128 over that block, and counts as a use of the summoner. Summoned meteors behave exactly like normal meteors, including using all the normal spawning parameters (so it uses the min and max diameters as per the options file, etc etc). Summoners have 20 uses.
AudioMod is now an optional mod to have installed. If you do have it, you can enable meteor sounds in the options file; note that, because AudioMod is not strictly necessary to the mod's functionality, sounds are by default turned off. If you have AudioMod, set the option to true and put the sounds in the right place.
