Salvete, visitors!

Welcome to the Complete Latin Language Modification, the first language mod that translates everything in Minecraft into Latin. I acknowledge that I am actually not the first to create a Latin language mod - LatinCraft can attest to this. The main difference between this mod and that one is that this mod translates the entire language file used into Latin, while the other one only did about half or so and had inaccurate translations. Everything in this mod, from blocks to enchantments, is translated into Latin.

The features of this mod include:
  • A complete translation of all items, GUI buttons, enchantments, achievements, and statistics
  • Everything is written in the Classical Latin capitals, with the letters "j" and "u" replaced with the more traditional "I" and "V," respectively
  • New, innovative words added to the Latin language to suit the modern world of technology
  • Coming Soon: Inclusion of not only the option of Classical Latin spelling and capitalization, but an Ecclesiastical Latin option with modern spelling and capitalization

To utilize this mod, once installed, simply go to "Languages" and scroll down until you see "LINGVA LATINA." Click it, and everything should be in Latin!

How to install (Windows):

  1. BACK UP your "minecraft.jar." (see #4 for location)
  2. Once LINGVA LATINA.zip is downloaded, extract the "lang" folder from it onto your desktop.
  3. Download a program such as Win-Rar or 7-Zip.
  4. Using one such program, open up "minecraft.jar." (to find that file, go to "My Documents" and type in %APPDATA% in the address bar. Then click the ".minecraft" folder and then the "bin" folder. It should be located here.)
  5. Reduce the window to where you can see both the window open and the "lang" folder on your desktop.
  6. Drag the "lang" folder into "minecraft.jar."
  7. Press "Ok" for any "Are you sure you want to..." messages.
  8. Delete the META-INF folder in "minecraft.jar."
  9. Close "minecraft.jar."
  10. Open Minecraft and test out your new mod!

As compatibility with other mods goes, this mod should be 100% compatible with any mod EXCEPT any other language mods. If you wish to install this mod and another language mod, then you will have to edit the "languages.txt" folder in "minecraft.jar." If you want instructions on how, then please comment below.

Also please check out The Ancient Rome Project, my Minecraft city of Rome which goes perfectly with this mod!

This doesn't work at all for me. I'm getting a Java error and a black screen (and I have no idea why this would happen with a language mod). The error code pasted below is from MagicLauncher, which automatically pops up a console window if there's an error. If I just run Minecraft without MagicLauncher (and hence, no other mods... though the only mod I use is OptiFine anyway), I get a black screen and the same stuff from the Java Console. I just dragged and dropped the files from one WinRAR window to another the first time, but the second time I only dragged the lang file and edited languages.txt by hand, with the same result.

That is a bit strange. I use Magic Launcher as well, and all I have to do to make the mod work is to choose the zip file just like for Optifine. However, I put my Optifine mod after the Latin mod on the list. This might be your error. The Latin mod will say "no mods found," but just ignore that and make sure it is first on the list.

What you would essentially have to do is this: Once you download LINGVA
LATINA.zip, you need to extract the "lang" folder to your desktop or
wherever as usual. Then you want to open the "lang" folder, then copy
the "la_RM.lang" file and paste it into the other "lang" folder which is
located within "minecraft.jar." The next step is to copy the
"languages.txt" file from the "minecraft.jar" onto your desktop, and
then edit it with Notepad++
(free program). All you have to do is place this text wherever you'd
like, as long as it's in its own line of code: la_RM=LINGVA LATINA
(ROMA) Once you've done this, save the file and paste it back into the
"lang" folder within "minecraft.jar." It should work now with both
languages.

Magnificum opus!
Btw, i suggest you a translation of the name "MineCraft" in Latin: "ExcavOpifex"

Interesting name, but the word I used for "to mine" was "fodio, fodere"
while the word I used for "to craft" was "confero, conferre." I think it
would have to be "Fodere ac Conferre." But that's too long so I think
I'll just stick with "Minecraft," so as to not lose the original meaning
by translation.

Could u please make a version with regular letters instead of "V" and "I"? because sometimes i dont know weather ur using "I" in replacement of "J" or "V" in replacement of "U". oh and also General Franks idea was good too

First of all, I am the maker of this mod myself. Secondly, yes, I could do that. I would incorporate that with my other idea and make another version with the letters lowercase and capital as well as with "j" and "u" included. I would make the installation put both versions in, so you could choose between them whenever you wanted. Is that what you were thinking?

Nice, but why is it all caps?

The reason I use all caps is to evoke a genuine Roman feeling. The Romans never used miniscule letters when writing, only capitals. Miniscules were not introduced until at least the Middle Ages or so. Also, using capitals gives me a chance to use the awesome looking "I" and "V" rather than "j" and "u." But if you would like, I could start working on a version with both capitals and miniscules.

OMG, Tomb Raider temple in background, I see what you did there!!!!

I salute you, not just for this language pack, but for your skill, and knowledge of such wonderful, old games.

Actually, the background is of a Minecraft version I built of the Pantheon in Rome (part of the Ancient Rome Project whose link is in the description). And thanks for the compliment, even though I wouldn't consider Minecraft a very old game, if that is what you meant.

you're right, minecraft isn't even five years old. So it's not young. I was never even talking about minecraft anyway, I was talking about tomb raider...Tomb Raider: The Lost Revelation, to be exact, it's so old, it's PS1 generation. And still one of the best game series in existence.

Okay, no one really speaks Latin these days, but there are some people who would really enjoy this mod if they are either learning the language or just love its beauty. Thanks for the diamond, though!

latin is still used in writing

That it is. It is also used as the official language of the Catholic Church, and many words in English are derived from Latin, so it really isn't as "dead" as people think.
