This piston-based text display should imitate standard industrial alphanumerical LC-displays.
Updated for 1.2, now using Redstone Lamps (yeah...).
It has 24 characters, 5 by 8 pixels wide, in 2 rows, addressed by a 5-bit bus (first 4 bits define the column, the fifth defines the row).
The charactor ROM has 64 slots (see "character set.txt") and an inverter (for each pixel) attached to it.
An input to clear the whole display at once is also included.
To write a text, select the character code (binary coded) and the character location (from left to right, binary coded 0-11, fifth bit selects the row, 0 for the first, 1 for the second) and give a pulse on the "character set" line, wait a bit.
Old piston version is still included.
Green: location (Column: bit 0-3, row: bit 4)
(Light blue and light green indicate LSB)
Purple: invert
Cyan: clear screen
Brown: set character

I already nearly finished my next gen display, it has 96 fixed characters + 10 runtime programmable (using redstone signals) characters, an improved inverted rendering and a blinking cursor, the overall look is about the same.
Yes, I like this industrial look, but I am not very good/creative in building architectural things, so it's just a rude remake of the original one. If someone more talented decides to improve the look, I would be glad :)
Thank you for your feedback and support, as long as there are at least some people who appreciate the work I put in here it's worth I think.
