This will show you how to make custom block drops easily in the new snapshot,which will be useful for maps and mini-games.This works by testing for a block,once it doesn't the comparator will turn off making the redstone torch turn on,activating another command block which will spawn an item where the crate was.
1.testforblock ~ ~3 ~ minecraft:piston 6 -test for the "crate" block
2.summon Item ~4 ~3 ~ {Item:{id:276,Count:1}} -summons an item.
