This is a Realistic scaled down map of Antarctica, intended for server use, but may be useful for single player. The vast majority of the land is covered with ice to simulate the hard pack ice. In the places were the ice sheets form in real life, I have manually set the biome to be frozen ocean, so that the ice sheets will grow on there own as long as your in the area.

The idea is to have vast wasteland for your players to colonize and learn to survive in. they will have to think ahead to stay alive in this very inhospitable landscape. They will have to establish there own means of food and shelter. The land is quite rich in resources, below 96 that is, and would be an excellent place to have a large scale mining operation. Assuming of course the player can learn to survive.

The normal resources are available, however caves and canyons have been omitted since MCs generated ones don't look natural in this setting.

THERE IS NO DIRT ON THE SURFACE OF THIS MAP!!! THERE ARE ALSO NO TREES!!! Players will have to find it under ground, or bring it in from another map on your server. my suggestion would be to leave a free sticks sign near your chosen spawn point if this is to be used as your main map.

Notice: This map is Quite large! when it is extracted from its zip container it will take up 706MB of hard drive space! However, the size of this Map will not effect server performance.

I have scaled the map down to a Computer friendly percentage of Antarctica's actual size. In order to the terrain to be usable, I had to multiply the height of the terrain a few times, so it isn't accurate in this regard. However, if had left the elevations to scale, the tallest mountain would only rise 5 blocks from 0. Just to put things into perspective, if I had created the map true to real life scale (not counting elevations, just surface area) the resulting Minecraft world save would be approximately 6260.76 GB in size! And would have had a surface area of 37,748,736,000,000 blocks squared! (6,144,000 x 6,144,000)

Additional Notes

Minecraft version: 1.3.2
Dimensions: 6144x6144 blocks (1/1000 scale.)
Max land altitude: 232 blocks (so you will still have some room to build on the tallest mountains)
Ocean level height: 96
File size: compressed (zip): 267MB, uncompressed: 706MB.
CreditUSGS, for the DEM data used to render the terrain.
