Intro:
Hey, guys! Today, I have one of my favorite creations to show you: Balance Beams! This is something I got the idea for after playing a competition in a Big Brother Minecraft game, and wow is it awesome! Basically, this adds the dynamic of balance to Minecraft. Ever tried running across a cobblestone wall? It's a bit tedious, sure, but not too hard. However, when you add in balance, it becomes another story.
Balance:
In order to simulate a type of balance in Minecraft, I use command blocks to calculate the player's distance from the middle of the cobblestone wall down to three decimal places. From this value, I calculate a percentage of the total distance from the middle. With this percentage, I then teleport the player a certain amount (adjustable) away from the middle.
Potential:
This feature has the potential to change a lot of maps. Take an RPG map for example. The adjustable version could be used to give individual characters their own weight. The heavy class would have a high weight, while the lightweight class (ninja, assassin, etc.) would have a low weight. You could then add these balance beams going to certain areas where you can get extra loot in chests and what not. Since it takes time to master getting across the balance beam, it's a great thing to throw in an RPG map since it actually takes time to learn. Also, unless you remove this feature (it'd take one command), if you stand in the exact middle of the block (0.500) or within 0.004 from it and look at the angle 0.0, you can walk across it without getting affected by balance at all, since you're perfectly balanced. If it's an RPG map, I would leave this feature in, as it's a nifty little trick players can learn.
In addition to being used in RPG maps, this feature could also be its own parkour map. As you can adjust the difficulty by changing the strength of the balance, you're able to make each level unique.
Map:
I made a short little map you guys could play to test out this feature for yourself. It's pretty hard, despite the fact it seems easy at first. Make sure that you sprint across the entire cobblestone wall (you can stop when you reach a stonebrick). If you walk, shift, or jump you'll get reset to the previous stonebrick. My best time is 3 minutes and 16.7 seconds. My friend got 2 minutes and 50 something seconds. My other two friends got 12 min and 15 min. It tells you your time when you complete the map, so I wish you luck! :D
Conclusion:
I'm not sure if people are going to use this feature, but it's certainly very cool. I love the effect it has. I didn't know it would turn out this well when I was building it. Anyways, if you enjoyed, a diamond would be much appreciated! Thanks!
