Well Here it is, a simple and compact redstone door! This was only about 1 hour in development, but it is so good i had to upload it, for the rest of the Minecraft World!!!

Thisdoesn'ttake up that manyresources!!!
So Build It Now!!!

Insteadof the restone lamps you can also use fences!
To Build This It Takes
  • 12 sticky pistons.
  • 12 pieces of Redstone.
  • 18 normal blocks.
  • 2 redstone lamps.
  • 4 repeaters
  • 50 blocks altogether

The leftmost and rightmost vertical layers are actually completely unnecessary in 1.5, I think. It's worked for me before. Might just be a glitch, but is worth testing.

Back again, and I have to ask: Have you tried making a vertical application for this door? The whole 'two-stage falling floor' idea would be amazing, or even a flush ceiling door where you could conceal mob dispensers, etc. Anyway, just a thought. :D

Actually tried to do it on the floor once, and got it to work. Not very compact, but I can give you the save if you want.

Stunning work. I am definitely going to try this design out in both creative & survival modes. It's so simple yet the mechanism is really smooth. Diamond for you sir.
