To fix the mis-alignment, move the piston droppers up one block, and power them through the colored markers, and make the gravel/sand droppers only dispense 5 blocks. Hope it helps. ;)

Or instead he could just remove the top row of pistons that push the sand/gravel that's what I did it works fine, and it only dispenses 4 blocks.
