October 10, 2016, USS Mason was transiting the Bab-el-Mandeb (BAM Strait) when she was attacked by 2 land-based Houthi Rebel Missiles. Both of them impacted the water and caused no damage to the Mason or her crew. That's the basic story I heard in the Arabian gulf 4 days later. We then learned that the Mason as well as another destroyer fired back and destroyed 3 Radar stations in Yemen in response to the attack. When CSG 10 began its transit back south and up through the Red Sea, passing through the Red Sea were the ships USS Nitze, USS MASON, USNS Arctic, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and one more I cant remember. IKE had launched 2 Sea hawk helicopters equipped with rotary guns and M240Bs off their bay doors. IKE also saw increased measures for its own firepower, security had 3 240s on top of the 9 50cals. The BAM Transit lasted approx 4 hours, no attempts were made to stop/attack the strike group.
