This world is a place of primal energy, a place where danger is constant and beauty is common. It is a place where wars have been fought and kingdoms built, where conquest was frequent and rebellion always immenent. From the ever-growing cinders of fallen kingdoms emerged a final victor: the Dragon King. He was wise, powerful, and farsighted- he dreampt of a world where peace reigned and the Dragons roamed free. He built a castle of iron and stone upon a place of great power, hoping to give his kingdom the strength of the Primal.

This Castle, as beautiful as it was unassailable, was called the Crown of the World- for surrounding it were islands that rose from the depths, each filled with the Primal and every one connected to another place of great power. For forty years, the Dragon King ruled, and peace reigned supreme. A peace deeper than the oldest oceans, grander than the tallest mountain.But it was not to last forever.
In a single, terrible moment, the Primal erupted, and the Crown sank into the earth, bathed in flames. With it went the Dragon King, his wealth, and everything he had strove for. The gateways closed, isolating and disconnecting the kingdom. Without the King, peace fell to unrest, and unrest to war in a world that could not cope with one.

This was the War of Ashes, the last war of humanity. A war so terrible, all that remained was the cinders of a dead kingdom, its past forgotten.
Life eventually returned to the world, and with it humanity returned. The seas of fire cooled, replaced by water; the gaping hole that was the Crown covered by stone, dirt, and sand. Some say that the Dragon King remains sealed deep below the earth, waiting to be freed. Others say the castle is a mere myth.

Whatever may be the case, the highest tower of the Crown remains, at odds with the land around it.
