Farmville Gnomes
Farmville Gnomes is my entry in the Maze Making Contest whose theme is a wheat farm (hence the name) and where you incarnate as a gnome wandering around said wheat farm. I and a couple of friends used quite a lot of our free time making this and I can assure you that every tile has been completely re-done at least once.
My inspiration for this build was of course the conventional real-life corn mazes.
Farmville Gnomes is a 1.16.4 java edition build.
My time using the Maze Maker & Tips for beginners
Worldedit... Oh boy Worldedit.
It's a must-have, it helped me so many times, like the many times where I messed up a tile's orientation while building. It was also useful when duplicating & reorienting tiles since a lot of mine required this.
Next on the list of things I want to talk about is a certain tile of mine, or should I say tiles? Where it differs from other conventional tiles or what I've seen others do so far is that it's a singular structure made in the intersection between four different tiles. Here's an image: https://imgur.com/a/fSb8sXU
Let's move on to a topic which I feel I must talk about, being the many issues I faced while building. The first, and possibly most important one I faced, is when my exit had suddenly vanished. Gheppio, the map's creator, helped me quite a lot and had apparently thought ahead and added a failsafe, that being the command /setblock -11 20 -182 minecraft:redstone_block replace
Except for that, I did have that one issue where my frames slowed to an astonishing 4 seconds per frame :) https://imgur.com/a/GOPAjtN
I'm almost done I swear! Anyway, now I want to talk about a decision I made at the start which, depending on who asks, has its ups and downs. The decision being making separate corner/straight tiles in every direction. Although this helped make the maze feel more natural, it came with a large drawback, being that it required two straight tiles and four corner tiles. And that's without counting the three ways, which I gave up on and decided to use a four-way tile in place of three-ways. https://imgur.com/a/q9f8PHz
Even though it removes the boxy look of the maze, I'd recommend not doing this, as it ate almost half of the available 20 tiles and we had to get creative in order to still make a fun map gameplay-wise.
Lastly, here's a tip for people who want to join the event or have just started:
Think outside the box.
A conventional maze is definitely not what will be getting the top spot in this event.

Well made fellow contestant!
"Think outside the box" is a great tip, and captures the spirit of the contest!
All I know is that the long walks do get kind of boring after 17 of them.
