Well, no. The map is not a currency: it's not like it has inherent commercial value in such a way that its avaliability would decrease its worth. Thus it's not "worth nothing if everyone has it" - it's worth the artist's work, and this is what the commissioner pays for. The map wouldn't exist if the artist wasn't paid to make it, so there's no sense on "want their money back [...] if everyone has it". And that said, he cannot charge for the map - or make any commercial use of it - at all because it contains Mojang's intellectual property; and this is would explicitly violate Minecraft's EULA. This is why you don't see paid mods for Minecraft. The map's exclusivity can only exist as a personal agreement between the commissioner and the artist and has no legal effect.



But if the commissioner wants to keep the map he commissioned for himself, it's perfectly ok. Although nor he, neither the artist, can sell it. And this is what i'm warning here.
