Historical Background:

H.M.S. Duke of Wellington is a 131-gun first-rate three-decker ship-of-the-line of the british Royal Navy. Launched in September 1852 as the Windsor Castle and renamed a month later in honor of the Duke of Wellington who died that year. At the time of her launching, she was the most powerful ship in the world until the French Bretagne came into service in 1855. She was powered by steam or screw propulsion and was armed with 131-guns, mostly 32-pounders with a few 8-inch shell guns and a single 68-pounder heavy gun. She was commissioned in 1853 and participated in the entirety of the Crimean War as the Flagship of the Baltic Fleet under Vice Admiral Charles Napier and later Rear Admiral Richard Dundas. After the war she served a few more years in active service before reduced to harbour service in 1858.
