oh geez
it's nearly impossible to get a good render for this it's far too long
with a decent paint job it can also substitute for the chinese destroyer in the VU (UEL)
stats are in video this time
name isn't just a pun
fite me
this is another design experiment so to speak, i'm pretty happy with the shape (although i'll probably make it shorter.....) minus a few little flaws
i'm going to try and build on this to design my cruiser, or maybe something smaller and tighter, this is big and messy
a framework is taking shape :3
BACKGROUND
The Longwei is designed to provide anti-fighter support to larger fleets. Nearly completely internally immune to the small arms commonly seen on fighters, with 2 flak batteries and a ridiculous firing area, it's a fighter pilot's worst nightmare.
Longwei ships are very frequently seen patrolling the borders of Kyremian space, usually along with a Cerius for fast transport and an Escort Freighter for resupply. Since capital ships are rare in such a sparse region, it is perfect for the task.
DESIGN
I wanted a really good firing arc for the flak guns I'd been designing, so I figured I'd space them out a lot. This led to a lot of issues, however- a long body means fighters could easily get inside the ship's shields and blast away to their heart's content, not to mention boarders. I spent a while designing armour until I came up with something that was completely immune to TNT without breaking any CC rules (although I haven't tested it on curved surfaces until now), countering the fighters. As for the boarders, since the armour requires a 2-block thick empty space to work properly, I decided to make it as dark as possible. Anyone breaching the outer hull will be met with a multitude of monsters :D
Strengths: Massive firing arcs, tough, tiny frontways hitbox, high DPS, high area denial, high structural integrity
Weaknesses: Poor maneuverability due to extreme length, vulnerable bridge, inaccurate, terrible shield penetration, systems aren't very robust, controls are bad, immense length means traditional overshield design is highly inefficient, those damn thin segments, poor visibility (especially since you need to aim), gets snapped like a twig by capital ships
Strong against: Fighters, bombers, small carriers
Weak against: Cruisers, frigates, dreadnoughts
Offense: 5/10
Defence: 5/10
Speed: 1/10
