The Mori'Quessir

Fear the darkness, Yet shun the light

The Mori'Quessir (commonly known by the surface dwellers of Asulon as the Mori), are a cavern dwelling sub-race of the Elves. Their culture traditionally leans towards matriarchal rule: meaning that the females hold most positions of power within the caverns of Menorcress. This tradition of ruling however has had exceptions in which males have held positions of power normally reserved exclusively for females. Mori'quessir culture has always been deeply engrossed in their religious worship and devotion to a pantheon of deities known as the Seldarine: though prominently the Mori'quessir as a metropolis devote their worship to The Immortal Mother, Nemiisae -- though there have been records of a cult of male mori'quessir believed to follow the worship of The Prideful Father, Zanunder.

Their origins were woven in webs, by their immortal mother, ensnared by destiny to forever linger among the spiders. Unto her brood, Nemiisae imparted the Spider's Gift: The instincts of a hunter, yet her children grew to be vicious and predatory, cannibalistic even towards another. Knowledge of the spidero s poison, yet such venomous comprehension was soon used for ill. The sight of the spider, to illuminate the darkest depths, yet forever would her children shy away from the blinding light of day.

===The Mori Mindset===

Now we know a little about what the Mori are, and we know why they remain deep underground to this day. Let us dive into the mindset of the Mori, and find out more of their way of thinking.

All Mori are driven not only by the cultural pressure but more than anything by their own emotions. If you dono t have influence and station, youo re a failure even in your own eyes. This unpleasant fact motivates even the lowest stationed Mori to be all that it can be. To say that these creatures of the dark are without emotions is to demonstrate plain ignorance (which to the Mori'quessir is considered one of the greatest crimes), but a sentiment that is understandable to any who has been subjected to their rather curious ways of existence. However, more than anything else the Mori are driven by their own emotions and how they compel them to act. A certain composition of emotions are more dominant than the others, though the strength varies in degree on an individual basis.

==Superiority
"It was told centuries ago, when the last of the surface civilizations came to their inevitable ends, the silence echoed throughout the lands. The Mori came to the belief that their Immortal Mother persevered her brood from the perils that blighted the surface dwellers. The Mori of that era, came to know their kind were the race to prevail over all others, thanks to their Immortal Mother's Blessing, and eventually engrossed themselves in the belief that they among all others were superior and chosen to survive by the Mother herself."

All Mori are born with abilities that other creatures would kill to have: The Immortal Mother's Blessing and protection, the ability to see in such blinding darkness, the gift of knowledge to forge such potent poisons are but a few examples, so it only makes sense that, the 'lesser' races should be jealous and hateful towards the Mori.

Quick Tip: Whether openly derisive of other races or quietly condescending, the Mori should make others understand that whatever power they may gain, they can never match what the Mori achieve simply by being born from the bosom of Nemiisae.

==Egotism
"Like a nest of spiderlings, the children of Nemiisae would fight amongst themselves; to prove themselves better and more favoured by the Mother, such squabbles display a disturbing lack of mercy, all inferior simply devoured or broken until one rules over them all -- in the perfect image of their Mother."

Because the Mori have the perception that she/he is a superior specimen of a superior race, this pride compels them to act arrogantly towards others whenever possible, and when ito s not they lash out at others to compensate for their own flaws; never really willing to admit it might be possible something could be their fault. Of course, such a lash will only be targeted at those of a lower station than themselves, for fear of punishment from anyone of a higher rank. They have always relied on their own wits and skills to survive, and they continue to believe that they can, or they'll succumb to the depredations of other Mori who just like them, are trying to scramble up the social ladder.

Quick Tip: Remember to cast blame aside as quickly as possible, be creative and blame it on the rocky terrain or you were given inadequate resources; while the opposite holds true for your successes where you try to portray it as if you did it singlehandedly, even if you never did as much as lift a finger. Dono t be afraid to lie to such a degree that your character believe in it themselves, of course every success is your doing and every failure is someone elseo s fault! Theyo re all incompetent and you are perfection destined to rule over the city, and over the rest of the Mori. You have to find the exact balance point between being an arrogant adult and acting as a snotty five year-old kid thato s being told off and think ito s unfair; try not to overdo either of the parts, you are not so calm that you can just admit to it being your fault but neither are you a five year old kid.
