While reading The Church in Anglo-Saxon Society by John Blair, I came across a picture reconstructing the Minster Church at Cirencester in the early 9th century and I just had to build it in Minecraft. It's in a classic Roman Basilica style, which is my favorite type of church: I like the architectural simplicity. Cirencester was a moderately wealthy Minster in this period, and it would grow much more wealthy through the viking age with continued patronage. While many of England's other minsters lay derelict, burnt out, abandoned or barely subsisting decades after the coming of the great heathen army in 865, Cirencester prospered in a remarkable flowering of continental-inspired classism. It's renovations in the early 9th century show a concern to re-create Roman monumentality which likely reflects influence from the Carolingian Court or perhaps, tells a story of its clergy visiting Rome and bringing back inspiration. Fitting, since the church at Cirencester had itself been built on the site of a Roman structure.

The church features a green marble altar (no doubt imported all the way from Egypt!) with the Eucharist (wine and bread), a vestry with a small library study desk, and in the apse at the back, the tomb of an important local saint covered in votive flowers. Many a folk might have made pilgrimage here in order to heal an ailment or ask the Saint to intercede with the heavens on behalf of their prayers.

I had some minor help from Wholemeal who screenshot credit goes to.
