This is the Mk. Artillery Railgun System or "MARS-1", the first model of the MARS series.
The development of the MARS-1 code named " Project Supernova" began after the "Archangel Project". In a nutshell, the MARS-1 is an over sized artillery that utilizes electromagnetics to charge projectiles increasing the range and velocity of the shell, giving it improved performance. The MARS-1 howver compared to regular artillery is significally larger, costs more and is generally used on ships rather than smaller vehicles such as tanks.
During its development, many Legion engineers died from malfunctions and accidents, but in the end, their sacrifices wasn't in vain. Most of the accidents happened in the firing mechanism, where the railgun would often fire too fast that the barrel would explode from over heating, killing the operator. Other major accidents often happened with shells failing to launch and detonating inside the barrel. During the war, the MARS-1 served very useful and led to the development of the Mk. 2 Artillery Railgun System (MARS-2).
The MARS-1 is widely used in the Legion Navy and is sometimes used by the Legion Aerial Navy, most notably the "Thunderhead Class Assault Gunship"
Oh and I forgot to mention, there is a few second delay after the trigger is pulled. I want to make the barrels look like its charging the shell. The lights in the barrel also glows, which works as a count down sequence

I have a similar system in use on RAS Carolyne. My ASCAMS (automatic, small calibre, anti-missile system) are just hyperkinetic railguns built like a tiny version of these. Calibre 20mm compare to whatever massive slug these things can take!
It's nice to see another user of actually feasible tech.
